PNG or JPG to applique embroidery file

Drop an image. The background is removed, the shape is traced, and optionally split into colour pieces. You get the three applique layers, a cut file and a prediction of how cleanly it will stitch.

Questions

What kind of image works?

Clipart, logos and flat illustrations with clear edges. Photos and gradients do not trace into clean fabric pieces. A transparent PNG or a plain background is ideal.

How does colour separation work?

The foreground is clustered into the number of colours you choose; each colour becomes a separate fabric piece with its own outline. Overlapping pieces are cut separately and stitched in order.

Why is my traced shape rough?

Low-resolution images give stepped edges. Use at least 1000 px on the long side, or start from the original SVG if there is one; the SVG path is always cleaner.

Is the image uploaded?

No. Decoding, thresholding and tracing run in your browser.

Want the whole picture stitched in thread rather than cut from fabric? That is digitising, not applique: our sister site has an image to embroidery file tool that turns a PNG, JPG or SVG into fills, satin and running stitches for PES, DST, JEF and more.
