About
Why we built an applique maker that argues with you.
Every applique tutorial says “cut the fabric a little larger than the placement line”. Nobody says how much larger, or why a shape with sharp tips fails where a circle succeeds. We wanted a tool that gives the number, shows its work, and tells you when a design is not going to stitch cleanly before you waste a shirt.
What the tool does
It traces your artwork the way a browser renders it, builds the satin geometry column by column, and runs a Monte Carlo simulation of what happens when your cutting, placement and tack-down are each a little off. From that it picks a satin width and a cut allowance, generates the three colour stops for your machine, and exports the cut file at exactly the same scale.
How it was checked
- The satin engine was compared with Ink/Stitch on ten shapes; the depth of the inner rail agrees within 0.2 mm and always on the conservative side.
- The file writers were compared byte for byte with pyembroidery, the reference library behind Ink/Stitch, on three designs and five formats.
- The readers were tested on 225 real files from Brother, Janome, Wilcom, Premier+, Embrilliance and hobby designers, across PES versions 1 to 10, DST, JEF, EXP, VP3, HUS, VIP, XXX, SEW and PCS.
- The error budget uses published values: laser kerf measurements, Hatch and Wilcom pull-compensation defaults, and Brother PE-Design's 1.0 mm “standard cotton/felt” cutting allowance.
What it does not claim
The prediction is a model calibrated on published constants, not a promise. Real stitch-outs vary with stabiliser, hooping tension, needle and thread. That is why every result screen asks whether you stitched it and how it came out; those reports feed back into the constants.
